The microsiemens value is an indicator of the quantity of charged, dissolved substances (ions) in water. Over a defined length of 1 cm, the conductivity of the water is determined. Low conductivity indicates that there are few charged particles in the water. High conductivity indicates that there are many charged particles in the water. Internationally, the conductivity of water is measured in ppm (parts per million). This means: how many foreign substances are dissolved per million particles of water. 1 ppm corresponds to approximately 2 μS/cm. In the drinking water sector, measurements of water contamination, such as in the drinking water regulations, are measured in μS/cm.
